Jean-Paul Cyr
St. Agatha, ME
Jean-Paul Cyr passed away on December 20, 2023 at the Fort Kent hospital. Born on November 22, 1941 to Octave and Eva (Sirois) Cyr, he was the 4th oldest of 10 children and raised in Saint Agatha, ME. After graduating from High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was stationed at Verdun, France working as an automotive mechanic. After returning home from the military, he began working at the paper mill in Madawaska, ME where he remained and eventually retired after 43 years. In that time, he married his soulmate, Jeannine, and they were happily married for 50 years as they raised 4 children and built their homestead. He was a hard worker and an exceptional handyman. He loved a challenge and never hesitated to tackle large projects. He was always making improvements to the house he built, and he would often create inventions as repairs or solutions to repetitive tasks. He was proud of his Acadian heritage. He was a devout Catholic who attended mass regularly and often volunteered to support the local church. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 145 in Frenchville, Maine and often volunteered to support military service funerals in the area.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his four children: Francine Nason and her husband Dennis and their children Elise, Grace and Curtis; Michael Cyr and his wife Aew; David Cyr and his wife Irina and their children Avi and Chloe; Patricia Slimm and her husband Robert and their daughter Heather. He is also survived by his four siblings, Cecile Lausier, Georgette Pelletier, Bertrand Cyr and George Cyr.
He is predeceased by his parents, Octave and Eva, his wife Jeannine, his brothers Bernard, Luc, Jean-Guy, and Monfort, and his sister Rosemarie Beaulieu.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the St. Agatha Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Relatives and friends may call the Michaud Funeral Home on December 27, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and December 28 from 8 to 9:30 a.m. before service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edgar Paradis Cancer Fund and to the St. Agatha Church. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
