Obituary

Alice Dufour Chasse has passed away at the age of 90 on 06/24/2022.  She was married to her surviving husband, Patrick(Pat) Chasse, for more than 71 years.  Together they had one daughter, Aline Chasse Cyr, who predeceased them in July 1991.  Surviving family members include granddaughter Vicky Cyr Legere and her husband RJ of Kennebunk, Maine, grandson Ryan Cyr and his wife Isabelle of Arundel Maine, great-grandchildren Zachary Stanhope, Kennady Cyr and Karter Cyr, siblings Yvette Ayotte of Berlin, Connecticut, Florence Ralph of New Britain, Connecticut, Llyod and Gert Dufour of Madawaska, Maine, Norma and Donald Lachance of Manchester, NH and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Alice was a hard worker, growing up on a farm, helping her father while her mother cared for the rest of the family.  In her early teens Alice and her sister worked in private homes helping midwives which would prepare her for a life-changing event.  At the age of 17, Alice’s mother passed away having her 11th child leaving Alice to raise her siblings.  She had been planning her wedding which was now postponed, but her fiancée, Pat, waited patiently for her.  They were married May 1, 1951.  Alice and Pat worked side by side on their farm harvesting potatoes and wheat and selling milk, butter, vegetables, and wild strawberries.  Alice and Pat had one daughter, Aline, who married Robert Cyr and they had two children, Vicky and Ryan.  In 1991, Aline passed away from cancer at the age of 39.   At the age of 55, Alice went to work for the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging helping elders in the community for more than 20 years.  In 2020 at the age of 87 Alice received the Remember Me Lifetime Achievement Award.  This is an award which honors assisted living residents who have historically significant backgrounds or have served their community.  Pat says his wife has spent her whole life helping others.  “She has been a loving wife, a good mother, and she is my best friend”, he says.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 15 at 10:00am at St. Luce Catholic Church.  Burial will be at the St. Luce Cemetery.
