Andrew Neal (Skip) McQuarrie, Jr., 83, of Frenchville, Maine passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, July 1st.
Skip was born on March 2, 1939 to parents Edith Catherine Walls McQuarrie and Dr. Andrew Neal McQuarrie in Edmundston, New Brunswick. After Skip graduated from Madawaska High School in 1957 he went on to study Commercial Art at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
In August of 1958 he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He also served during the Cuban Missel Crisis. After three years of service, Skip came home to Madawaska, Maine in 1961 and began a career at Fraser Paper Company which spanned a length of 40 years. At his retirement in 1998 he held the role of Production Manager in the catalog mill.
In 1660 Skip married his high school sweet heart Rose Marie Paradis McQuarrie and they went on to have three children, Edith Ann (Dee Dee), Michelle Marie (Micki) and Andrew Neal (Andy). Skip was an outdoorsman and enjoyed snowmobiling and riding ATV. He was a Maine State Guide and loved hunting, fishing and the annual family camping trips in the Allagash wilderness. Skip loved animals and owned several beloved dogs Slate, Sammy, Scottie and Arin all who predeceased him. Throughout his life he enjoyed drawing, woodworking and he even authored and illustrated several children’s books.
Skip also gave back to the community. He was the Director of the St. Luce Food Pantry for twenty years and served on the Board of Directors of the Saint John Valley Associates. Skip served on the Frenchville Town Counsel and the Fraser Central Safety Committee.
Skip was predeceased by his parents Edith and Andrew, his bother David McQuarrie, his sister Mary Madore and his daughter Edith. He is survived by his wife Rose, his daughter Michelle and her husband Bill Cross, his son Andrew, his sister Judith and his seven grandchildren Owen, Neal, Spencer, Rocco, Freyja, Iona and Sigrid.
A graveside service will be held at the St. Luce Cemetary in Frenchville, Maine on Thursday, July 14th at 11:oo am. Immediately following the services, family and close friends are invited to a celebration of life at the Lake View restaurant in St. Agatha, Maine.
