Armand A. Chasse

St. Agatha at Fort Kent

   Armand A. Chasse 97, died peacefully at a Fort Kent Health Facility on July 8, 2020. He was born in St. Agatha, Me.  March 23, 1923 the son of Letuce and Leona 'Ayotte' Chasse. 

            Armand attended Blaine School, located near the Lucien Ayotte Farm and lived at the home of Christine and Donat Gervais and attended the Daughters of Wisdom Convent. At the young age of 16, Armand left St. Agatha and joined up with relatives in Connecticut. He enrolled in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and on November 19, 1941 was awarded a Certificate of Proficiency from the United States Army School for Bakers and Cooks. Armand always wanted to serve his country, but was unable to enlist in the Army because of an eye problem. He was, however, able to join the United States Maritime Service where he served until 1946. After his discharge, he worked in Florida, Georgia, Maine and Connecticut until he left for California in 1952.

            Once in California, Armand worked for over seven years at Lockheed Aircraft. He took a cosmetology course and obtained credentials for that profession. It was not long after completing the course that he landed a job with Universal Studios arranging stage settings.Universal Studios and Paramount Studios were to be his place of work for thirty-five years.Armand was on hand for set dressings on Bonanza, Lucille Ball Shows, Little House on the Prairie, Robert Wagner Presentations and many others. After his retirement, Armand did some traveling and found his way back to northern Maine and St. Agatha.

Armand lived at the St. Agatha Housing, was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed preparing meals for his friends and always enjoyed a good game of cards.

 He is survived by several cousins.  Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic a Memorial Service was held at the St. Agatha Lower cemetery Monday at 10:00a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Michaud Funeral Home of St. Agatha.  Condolences may be sent to www.michaudfuneralhomes.com (His obit was taken from an interview at the St. Agatha Historical Society)
