Francis Morin Obituary

Francis Joseph Morin passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, in Frenchville, Maine.  He was born in St. Agatha to Joseph and Ida (Pelletier) Morin on September 16, 1934.  He attended St. Agatha schools until the age of 15 and later earned his GED.  On October 17, 1960, he married Claudia Plourde Morin.  He was a generous, loving, and devoted son, husband, father, brother, and uncle.

He worked with his father until he was conscripted in 1957 and served at Fort Devens, MA and Fort Belvoir, VA.  In 1958, he started to work in Presque Isle at the First National Grocery Store, where he trained as a meat cutter.  A year later, he was hired as department meat manager at the Madawaska store and eventually was promoted to store manager.  During the 1961 Berlin Crisis, he was again called back to active duty.  Given his entrepreneurial spirit, he decided to strike out on his own in 1972, purchasing Mr. Fred Marin's General Store.  Together with his wife, they built up and operated "Morin's Neighborhood Store," which was a local fixture for 24 years.  He and Claudia retired in 1996 to Sinclair, Maine.

Kind and generous, Francis was always open to providing assistance in his own quiet way to those who needed help no matter the time of day or night.  Francis also felt strongly about community service and participation in local politics and development.  He was a member of the American Legion and a Knights of Columbus of the Third Degree.  He served on the St. Agatha Board of Selectman in the mid-1960s and then again in the 1980s. In the early 1970's, he was the project coordinator for the construction of the Northern Aroostook Regional Airport in Frenchville.  He and Paul "Babe" Michaud were instrumental in bringing cable TV to St. Agatha in 1981.  He also worked with his brother-in-law James Chamberland to develop Montfort Heights, which opened in December 1982.  He read the newspaper on a daily basis and watched the news programs to keep current on local, state, and national politics as well as world events.

Francis is survived by his devoted wife Claudia of 65 years and his sons, Michael and wife Alyssa Cannon of Arlington, VA, and Paul and husband Andre Tirenin of Brooklyn, NY; his siblings James and wife Patricia, Philip and partner Stan Albert, and Rita (James) Chamberland, all of St. Agatha; Patricia (Hal Porter) of Kennebunk, ME; Gerard of Old Orchard Beach, ME; Lorraine Zimmerman of Loxahatchee, FL; and many nieces and nephews and their families.  He is predeceased by his parents and siblings Maurice, Angela, Camille, Rose Marie (Joseph) Lapointe, Richard, and Florine (Jack) Michaud.

Francis' family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at St. Joseph Memory Care Center for their love and compassionate care.
