JOEY GILMAN POTVIN passed into the divine grace of his savior, Jesus, on the 19th of September 2023. He was predeceased by his parents, Flevie and Edmund Potvin of Fort Kent, and his brother, Yvonne Potvin of Fort Kent. He is survived by his siblings Yvette Daigle, Vernon Potvin, Urby Potvin, Betty Bosse, and his many nieces and nephews. He is remembered by the mother of his children, Denise Potvin of Brunswick, ME, and lives through his children; Francoise Potvin (Alex) of Spencer, NY, Benjamin Potvin (Nathaniel) of Brunswick, ME, Aline Potvin of Chicago, IL, Gabrielle Potvin of Doha, Qatar, and Matthew Potvin (Kayla) of Brunswick, ME; and his grand-child, Ava Potvin-Menifield.
Joey was a charismatic force in the Fort Kent community that cherished random acts of kindness in an unkind world. His final years were fraught with a struggle with cancer that took his life, but did not kill his spirit.
He worked hard to be a father and provider for his children and endeavored to be a pillar for the community for which he so loved. From a young age, he poured his heart into the church through social outreach for the poor and connected deeply with the teachings and philosophy of St Francis. He put his sweat into rebuilding the Fort Kent Food Pantry and Good Shepherd thrift store. He was a Master Gardener and built community gardens to ensure everyone could enjoy locally grown food.
Above all, Joey wished for people to treat each other with kindness. It is with this in mind that his family asks, instead of flowers, for people to make a donation and express a random act of kindness and senseless act of beauty within your local community. Love each other while you can. Share with each other what you can. Be with those you love while you can, and above all, be kind.
A celebration of life gathering for friends and family will take place on Saturday, September 30 between 3-5PM at the Lions Club Pavilion at Riverside Park (40 Dufour St, Fort Kent, ME).
