On Tuesday, March 18th, 2025, our beloved Mom, Lise (Simard) Sirois, 80, died peacefully to be with our Lord, and reunited with her loved ones. She was born to Real and Germaine Simard on December 23, 1944, in Edmundston, NB.
Lise graduated from Cormier High School in Edmundston in 1963, and shortly after, as the story goes, she was picked up by our father in his beautiful red Impala, while she was walking on the side of the road, and he rescued her and took her out for ice cream, the first she’d ever had! We never did get the real story, but Luc and Lise were married on August 2nd, 1965, and there began their story. They were a great team and had four children. They had a huge group off friends that they enjoyed socializing with while snowmobiling, dancing, and at community get-togethers. In 1987, Lise became a young widow at 41. A challenge she handled with faith, grace and dignity. Lise was always creating something. She was forever working with her hands to make something beautiful, teach someone, or love someone with a handmade gift or meal. She taught craft classes with Adult Education for over 15 years, and she particularly enjoyed teaching Fiber Arts at the Ste. Agathe Historical Society where she volunteered and served as a Board member for 30 years. She was multitalented, and her appreciation for the arts was especially reflected in her interest in keeping the techniques and handicrafts of the Acadian tradition alive. Painting, sewing, quilling, stained glass, basket weaving, tatting, card making, loom weaving and carving were among her many talents. She was an excellent cook and kept a beautiful home. Her porch in particular was her happy place, where she welcomed anyone that came to her door. Once you walked in that door, you were a friend for life. She lived in St. Agatha for 50 years until her illness.
She was incredibly well taken care of by the staff at St. Joseph’s Memory Care over the last few years of her life. We are forever grateful for your kindness and care for her. Lise was preceded in death by her parents Real and Germaine Simard, the love of her life, Luc, her son Carl, her granddaughter Emma Giggey, her brothers Jean Guy and Louis Simard, Luc’s parents Leonide and Cecile Sirois, and several in-laws and a nephew whom she loved. She is survived by her children Mike Sirois, her daughter Debbie (Steve) Giggey, and daughter Sandy (Tony) Vas and her grandchildren Elise (Tommy), Wyatt (Mackayla), Mason, Lucas, Mary, Rowan and Corinne, and her great grandchildren, Millie, Zander, Kinsley and Brailee. Her sisters, Nicole (Andre) Vandal, Rachel Simard, and Francine (George) Levesque, brothers in law Dan (Carol) Sirois, Cam (Deborah) Sirois, Don (Kathleen) Sirois, and Diane (Dennis) Sirois.
Funeral mass will be at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Monday, March 24, 10:00 am. Visitation will be at the Michaud Funeral Home at 8:30 to 9:45. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Ste. Agathe Historical Society, St. Joseph Memory Care activities fund or the Long Lake Library in her memory.
