St. Agatha
Marcel Chartier, died April 24, 2015 at a Frenchville Health Facility two days after celebrating his 88th birthday. He was born on April 22, 1927 in Edmundston New Brunswick and raised in Madawaska. He was the son of John and Bertha (Cyr) Chartier. He had two brothers, Real and Louis Chartier. His parents and his brothers all predeceased him. Marcel served in the Army and after his return from the service he became a mail man in Madawaska for 29 years. Shortly after his retirement he moved to St. Agatha Housing where he was a resident for over 30 years. He occupied his time with small jobs. For twelve years he was a ceramics teacher, he was a cook for Frazer Guest House for fourteen years, then became the cook for the Senior Citizen Meals of St. Agatha, Frenchville, and Sinclair. Marcel was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and volunteered in many Parish committees and projects. He will be especially remembered for his beautiful voice as a cantor in church services. He had an infectious smile, a kind heart, and a gentle spirit. His thoughtfulness toward others was expressed with many greeting cards, gifts, and food treats.
Marcel is survived by his aunt, Orietta Rogan, two sisters in law, Jeanne and Irma Chartier, his nieces Felice, Charlene, Gisele and Lise, and by his nephews Louie, Chuck. His nephew James predeceased Marcel. He is also survived by his cousins Hugette Cyr, Gilles Cyr, and Mr. and Mrs. Yvan Cyr.
Friends may pay their respect at Michaud’s Funeral Home in St. Agatha on Tuesday, April 28th from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, April 29th from 8:30 – 9:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 29th at 10 a.m. in St. Agatha Catholic Church with Fr. James Plourde presiding.
