Marie Rose Lagasse Dionne

Madawaska, ME.

She was born in Stockholm, Maine on May 9, 1925 to Joseph ‘Pit’ and Josephine (Dufour) Lagasse. She married her pen pal, turned best friend and love, Clifford, in August of 1945 who preceded her in death in 2005, after 60 loving years together.

A lifelong parishioner of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Rose’s immense faithplayed a central role in her marriage and in raising her 10 children. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, anda proud Mémère to over 120 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Proverbs 31:28

Rose showed and shared her love for others in many ways. She adored to sing and play her guitar, entertaining family with Gospel songs and country music, especially her favorite Charley Pride. She sewed and quilted clothes for her children. She often cooked her best chicken stew and ployes, a favorite amongst her many grandchildren. Her hands were rarely still. She once picked over 135 potato barrels in one day, setting a local record.

Her life was a living example of the Bible Verse, Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

She was a loving and devoted mother, survived by nine of her children: Joseph Dionne and his wife, Patricia (Pelletier), of Van Buren; Jane Dionne of St. Agatha; Gil Dionne and his wife, Patricia (Michaud), of Frenchville; Roger Dionne and his wife, Diane (Dalczynski), of St. David; Armand Dionne and his wife, Linda (Morin), of Frenchville; Nancy Dionne and Allen Lavertu, of Madawaska; Carol Voisine of St. Agatha; Arlene Villerot and her husband, Thomas, of Northville, MI; Susan Williams and her husband, Gary, of Troy, MI.  She is also survived by four siblings: Cecile Fournier of St. Basile, NB, Canada; Rina Soucy of Madawaska; Joan Winfrey and her husband, Gerry, of St. David; and one brother Armand Lagasse and his wife, Vinette (Violette) Lagasse of St. David.
