Frenchville, ME – Marie Louise Raymond, 97, passed away, after a short illness, on December 17, 2019, at Forest Hill Residential Health Care in Fort Kent. She was born in Saint David, Maine, on December 26, 1921, the daughter of Alec Dufour and Joséphine (Albert) (Lagacé) Dufour. Marie Louise grew up next door to the St. David Church which would influence the rest of her life. Salutatorian of her Madawaska High School class, she went on to business college and later worked for the Farmers Home Administration and the SAD 33 Superintendent of Schools.
Like the Trinity, Marie Louise’s life had three inseparable parts: family, community service, and religion. On October 27, 1947, she married the love of her life, Maurice Raymond, which led to 66 wonderful years of marriage and resulting in 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Family was everything to Marie Louise and her greatest accomplishment was instilling her sense family values and traditions to her children. Her sense of community service was demonstrated in being co-organizer for the Frenchville Meals on Wheels program, the organizer of the Frenchville Clube du Bonheur, American Legion Auxiliary, RSVP Volunteer, Frenchville Citizen of the Year, Ladies of St. Anne, Parish Council and countless visits to area nursing homes. No one will forget her “thousands” games of Charlemagne and “thousands” of hours knitting. However at the center of her family and accomplishments was her religious faith. Her devotion to God was the guide to her life, her community, her career, her accomplishments, and her family.
With the loss of her beloved husband, Maurice, in 2013, she now leaves behind six children, Donald and his wife Anna Mae of New Canada, Paul and his wife Rachel of Frenchville, John and his predeceased wife Joleen, of Frenchville and Orono, Fr. David of Caribou and St. Agatha, Cecile Costello and her husband Matthew of Old Town, and Ann Slonina of Lewiston. Her grandchildren include Gary, Jeffrey, James, Elizabeth, Lura, Tony, John, Ben, Emily, Charles, and Abigail. Her great grandchildren include Oliver and Theodore.
A special thank you goes out to Dr. Michael Sullivan and the staff at Northern Maine Medical Center, the staff and residents at Ridgewood Estates in Madawaska, the staff and residents of Forest Hill Long Term Care, and the many family and friends who visited and cared for Marie Louise, especially during her final weeks.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Luce Church in Frenchville on Friday, December 20 at 10am. Family, friends, and community may call at Michaud’s Funeral Home on Thursday, December 19 from 6-8:00pm, and from 8:30am to 9:30 the morning of the service.
