Mark Peterson Obituary

Sinclair, Maine

Mark L. Peterson, Jr. 81, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Northern Maine Medical Center, September 8, 2015.  Born in Watertown, South Dakota to the late Myrtle Kane and Mark Peterson, Sr. on July 15, 1934.

After graduating from high school, Mark enlisted in the US Air Force, and eventually was stationed at Loring Air Force Base.  While stationed there, Mark met the love of his life and future wife Pierrette Ringuette, while visiting Madawaska.  Mark and Pierrette were married on June 12, 1956 and moved to Minnesota to begin their lives together.  They resided in Minnesota for fourteen years, while Mark worked in the construction business until 1971 when they returned to Maine on vacation and discovered that the Long Lake Sporting Club was for sale.  Mark and Pierrette returned to Minnesota, sold their home, returned to Sinclair, Maine, and within a month, purchased the Sporting Club.  While busy operating the Sporting Club, Mark found the time to become a registered Master Maine Guide, and became a life member of the Black Bear Rod and Gun Club, and was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. Just for fun, Mark would go fishing in Alaska, Skiing in the Swiss Alps, and of course playing cribbage at his camp on Fish Lake.  Mark's passion for flying became a reality in 1973 when he purchased a 1968 Cessna 180 on floats.  For several years, Mark flew the fire patrol in the local area.  When time permitted, Mark would fly to Labrador, Canada to remote lakes where he eventually built his fishing camp where he would fly to when time permitted.  However, Mark's pride and joy was "The Club".  He was the proudest that his daughter Debbie and son in law Ken Martin having owned and operated The Club for twenty years.  Mark's Grandson Neal and his wife Denise continues to operate The Sporting Club. One of Mark's favorite pastimes was to meet his son Mike for coffee at Tim Horton's in Madawaska.  Mark was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx in 2000.  Being the fighter he always was, Mark also battled lung and skin cancer, and a severe case of life threatening C-DIFF.  However, in the end it was an accidental fall, resulting in a broken hip that proved to be his demise.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother Myrtle, his father Mark Sr., and brother Lawrence and sister Joanne.  Mark is survived by his loving wife Pierrette, son and daughter in law Michael and Sandy of Madawaska, his daughter and son in law Debbie and Ken Martin of Sinclair, grandchildren Stacy Martin of Bangor, grandson Neal Martin and his wife Denise of Sinclair, and four beautiful great grandchildren Mackenzie, Natalie, Hanna and Kenneth.
