Maurice Sirois Obituary

Maurice M. Sirois

Madawaska, Maine

Maurice Sirois, 96, eldest of 13 children born on October 6, 1922 in St. Agatha, to Denis and Mary (Morneault) Sirois, passed away on December 28, 2018 in Madawaska.

He was a hardworking son to a farming family and a loving brother to his siblings.  He served his country proudly as a Veteran of WW11 as a Staff Sergeant and a heavy equipment operator in Okinowa and Hiro Jima. He was also stationed in Hawaii after the Pearl Harbor attack.  After having an Honorable Discharge, he returned home and married his beautiful wife Winnie and became a father of six children. Besides being a family man, he was also proud of being a Lifelong member of the VFW Post 145 in Frenchville, ME.  He worked as a local Milkman, a Truck Driver, and a 23 year Fraser Employee. He retired in from Fraser in 1987.  He was also a volunteer Fireman for the St. Agatha Fire Dept. until his retirement after 38 years of faithful service. Maurice still enjoyed some moose hunting but talked fondly of his time in the potato fields helping local farmers during their harvesting but claimed never to have time for hobbies.  After retirement he enjoyed being a delivering Senior citizen lunches for those not able to attend functions as well as delivering Ladies of St. Anne luncheons. The community remembers him fondly as a faithful believer in his church who assisted with being a Eucharistic Alter Server, collector, or proudly carrying the cross down the aisle at Our Lady of the Valley Church.

He is survived by one daughter Jacqueline and her husband Joel Daigle of Florida, two sons, Paul Emile and his wife Rilda of Connecticut and Harold of Madawaska; 9 Grandchildren, Shannon, Shawn Stacey, Paul John, Steven, Tammy, Todd, Jonathan, and Andrea; 8 Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Maurice is also survived by 2 brothers, Leo James and his wife Claudette, and Robert and his wife Gloria, both of Connecticut and 2 sisters, Cecile from Madawaska and Irene and her husband Nestor Gendreau of Connecticut. He is fondly missed by all.

He was predeceased by his loving parents and 8 of his brothers and sisters, two infant sons, Camille in 1950 at 9 months old and Marcel, 52, on Nov. 1, 2001, a daughter Helen, also 52 on June 5, 2005, followed by his wife Winnie, 79, on Nov. 30, 2008, all to Cancer. Although he is remembered as being a strong survivor to so much tragedy, he has never lost his smile or his needs to serve his Community in any way they needed.

Funeral Services will be Saturday June 22, 2018 at 10:00am. at the St. Agatha Catholic Church.
