Muriel A. Nelson, of Madawaska, Maine, passed away October 22, 2019 at the age of 86, lovingly cared for by her two daughters, Bootsie and June. Muriel was born on July 2, 1933 in Edmundston, NB, the daughter of the late John B. and Lily McInnis.
Muriel married George Clayton Nelson in 1953. While Clayton was in the Air Force, they lived in Stockholm, Me., San Antonia, TX., Angeles City, Philippines and Rantoul, IL. After Clayton’s retirement in 1973, they settled in Center Ossipee, NH, where they had their own business, Nelson’s Carpet and Upholstery.
Muriel had a creative talent as an interior decorator, self-taught upholster and loved many crafts. She was also known for her delicious baked goods, sometimes selling them from her front porch. One of her favorite things to do was having a cup of coffee and visiting with a friend or loved one. In 1990, Muriel returned to Madawaska to care for her parents, allowing them both to stay in their home until their passing.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Clayton, in 2014; her brothers, William McInnis and John S. McInnis; Son-In-Law, William Maxfield; sister-in-law and best friend, Joan Nelson; brothers-in-law, Hazen Nelson, Ted Stone and Mahlon Niles; niece’s Jean McInnis and Phyllis Gray.
Muriel is survived by her son, Richard Nelson and his wife, Betty of St. David; three daughters, Muriel Douglass of Madawaska, June Maxfield, of Madawaska, Gail Johnson and husband Kirk of Center Ossipee, NH; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Nelson, Crystal DaGraca and husband, John, Carl Nelson, Fay Douglass, Shawn Maxfield, Desiree Burlingame and husband, Josh, Jessica Brady and husband, Matt; fourteen great-grandchildren, Abby, Leah, Maya, Trey, Lilah, Drew, Sierra, Oliver, Damien, Joshua, Alissa, Abigail, Brianna and Mason; brother, Robert McInnis and wife, Norma, of The Villages, FL; sisters-in-law, Lois Stone of Gardiner, Edith Niles of Kittery, Wanda Orino and husband, James of Rumford, Sylvia McInnis of Madawaska; brothers-in-law Neal Nelson and wife, Ellie, of Rutland, MA, Dana Nelson and wife, Sandra, of Ellsworth.
Friends and Family may give their condolences to the family at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stockholm, Me. on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9:00am till time of Service at 10:00am. Burial at the New Sweden Cemetery afterwards.
