Norma Martin Obituary

Norma Veronica (Cyr) Martin died peacefully on June 27, 2024 surrounded by family, at a Madawaska assisted living facility. She was born on April12, 1927 in Edmundston, New Brunswick, daughter of Remi and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Cyr. She is survived by her children, Larry Martin and his wife Sally of Colorado Springs, Betty Martin of Madawaska, Patricia Martin of Freeport, and Andrew Martin and his wife Gina of Madawaska. She is also survived by her grandchildren Heather, Christopher and Nicolette Martin, Alison Bouthilette and her husband Bill, Tyler Remalia and his wife Susan, Ryan Remalia, and five great-grandchildren. Norma was predeceased by her husband, Fernand Martin of Frenchville, brother Edwin Cyr, sisters Frances Turgeon and Sonia Hall, and brother Andrew Cyr. She is survived by one sister, Mary Violette of Toronto, Ontario, sisters-in-law, Gilberte Cyr of Oshawa, Ontario, Solange Martin and Jacqueline Atwood of Bristol, Connecticut and many nieces and nephews. Norma began her teaching career at Cormier High School in Edmundston, NB. While raising her family she worked as a substitute teacher at the MSAD 33 schools in Frenchville and St Agatha for many years. The last years of her career were spent working for the then St Agatha Federal credit union. Norma loved her many family members, friends, students and coworkers. She loved to laugh, to socialize and to cook elaborate meals for family and company. She contributed to her community through various activities and organizations, including the St Luce parish council and delivering meals on wheels. To know Norma was to know that her unwavering Catholic faith provided the purpose in her relationships, her work and every aspect of her life. Prayer was her strength, her refuge, her guiding light, and her never-ending contribution and support to every life she touched. By her faith and her actions, Norma’s children and grandchildren know the meaning of unconditional love and compassion. Norma’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the wonderful staff, nurses, and physicians at Ridgewood Estates in Madawaska who provided Mom with the utmost care and compassion during her years as a resident. We are forever grateful to all of you. A funeral mass will be held at St Luce Catholic Church in Frenchville, Maine at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Visiting hours shall be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on July 1at Michaud Funeral Home in Frenchville. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a contribution are encouraged to make a memorial donation to the activities department at Ridgewood Estates in Madawaska.
