O'neil J. Dumais 89 died peacefully surrounded by his family Sept. 19, 2013 , at a Madawaska healthcare facility. He was born in Keegan, Maine Feb. 15, 1924 the son of George & Laura 'Raymond' Dumais. At 16, O'neil joined the CCC's (Civil Conservation Corps), He was a W.W.II veteran serving in the U.S. Army as part of the 150 Corps of Army Combat Engineers Co. B. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and member of the American Legion Post 145 of Frenchville for 39 years. As a
young man O'neil enjoyed fishing, hunting, picking fiddleheads, hazelnuts and many hours playing cards...esp Charlemagne. He was an avid Red Sox fan and loved his scratch tickets, enjoying these last two activities until the very end.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Rolande, and their 9 children and spouses: 2 sons Real & Debbie, Lloyd and Tamma, seven daughters Jackie Ecker, Claudette & Rene Bernier, Claire & Frank Colgan, Noella & Willy Mills, Lisa & Paul Simmons, Doreen & Kevin McDaniel and Carmen & Richard Sirois, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Five siblings Anita, Regina, Gerard, Romeo and Roland. He was pre-deceased by 3 sisters Therese, Rinette, Verna, 2 brothers Ronaldo and Reginald.
Friends and relatives may call at the Michaud Funeral Home in Frenchville Sunday Sept. 22. 2013 from 6 to 8 P.m. and Monday Sept. 23, 9:00 a.m. until 9:45. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Luce Catholic Church with the Rev. Kent Ouellette Officiating & with Military Honors.
