Sinclair at Caribou
Philip L. Dechaine, 73 passed away at Cary Medical Center on March 12, 2022 with his wife by his side. Philip was born in Edmondston, New Brunswick to Donat and Juliette (Sirois) Dechaine on May 26, 1948. He was raised in Madawaska and graduated from Madawaska High School in 1966. Philip enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1966 and served until 1970. Shortly afterward he took on the role of father figure to his three younger teenage brothers upon the death of both his parents. He worked in the family business and for other area businesses. Philip married Barbara Boucher on August 27, 1976; together they have one son, Brian.
Phil founded Babko Fasteners in the early 1980s and has since built up the business to what it is today. Upon retirement, Phil enjoyed guiding his son through the process of taking over the business and until recently, continued to have a hand in the business by doing the paperwork and bookkeeping.
Phil enjoyed his home on the lake in Sinclair. He liked sitting on the porch and often would say, “Now if we were to go on vacation, where would we go? There’s no place better than here!” In his earlier years, he enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting, along with snowmobiling in the winter.
Phil is survived by his wife, Barbara, son, Brian (Vanessa), and grandson, Ryker. He is also survived by his brothers Frank (Harriett) of Washington, Donald (Mur) of Long Lake and Dennis of Warren, Maine, a special niece, Stephanie Cameron of Washington, nephews, Donny (Jessica) Dechaine of Gray, Maine, Matthew (Kristy) Dechaine of Long Lake, Jesse Plourde of Oregon, Matthew (Krista) Plourde of Oregon, Chris Gendron (Caitlyn) of Nebraska, and Jacob Boucher of Sinclair, brother-in-law Patrick (Karen) Boucher of Sinclair and sister-in-law, Brenda Plourde of Oregon.
