Prescille Jeanne (Picard) Dumais

Prescille Jeanne (Picard) Dumais, 99, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2021, at a Madawaska Assisted Living Facility. She was born on July 10, 1921, in Frenchville, Maine, to Hypolite and Elise (Pelletier) Picard. Prescille was the eldest child ofHypolite and Elise’s 15 children.
Prescille grew up in Fenchville and was educated in the local school system. In 1945, she married the love of her life, Lawrence Dumais and the two remained inseparable for the next 56 years. Together they raised four children and ran the Lawrence Dumais and Sons Potato Farm until retirement. In addition to managing the household, she did the bookkeeping for the business and drove a potato truck during harvest. Prescille played an instrumental role in the development of the recipe that would becomeknown as a local favorite,Dumais Buckwheat Ployes.
Prescille was a devout Catholic and practiced her faith tirelessly. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Luce Catholic Church. She was a woman of strong work ethic and many talents, including knitting, gardening, and cooking local delicacies, such as moose tongue and boudin. She loved the outdoors and being together with family and friends. She had a photographic memory when she told stories from her childhood and reminiscing about the “olden days” on the farm, much to the delight of her grandchildren.
Prescille is survived by her four children, Philip and his wife, Linda of St. Agatha; Michael and his wife, Stellaof Frenchville; Pauline Roberts and her husband, Richardof Haverhill, MA, and Maxine Dumais of Hope, ME. Five grandchildren, Andy Dumaisof Madawaska, Randy and his wife, Janice Dumais of St. Agatha, Jacob Robertsand his wife, Lisaof Haverhill, MA; Scott Roberts of Manchester, NH; and Tracy Dumais-McCarty and her husband Brandon of Townsend, MA; and four great-grandchildren, Alain Dumais, Daniele Dumais, Desiree Dumais, andDanika Dumais. She is also survived by two sisters, Muriel Picard of Londonderry, NH and Laurette Park of Windham, NH, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Prescille was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence and infant daughter, Anne; her brothers, Jean Luc, Euclide, Antoine, Phillip, Edgar, and Joseph Picard; her sisters, Claire Dubois, Ursula Ellsworth, Leonie McGovern, Irma Albert, Rinette Gervais, and Claudette Perreault.
A private Mass will be celebrated with family. There will be no calling hours and burial will take place in Spring 2021.
