Rita (Martin) Babin

 

St. Agatha– Rita (Martin) Babin, 90, passed away suddenly, but peacefully on June 21, 2023, at her home with her husband by her side. She was born in Sinclair on March 31,1933, daughter of the late Patrick and Alma (Daigle) Martin.

Rita was a devoted catholic who never missed Sunday Mass, even during the pandemic she watched comfortably from her home. She was a longtime member of Les Dames De Ste. Anne, and enjoyed her time with the ladies.

Rita worked hard her whole life. She started working at a young age at her family store, Martin’s General store; later purchased a store with her husband which they ran for over 30 years, Babin’s Grocery. Later selling the store to their son Gary, who continued to run the store for another 27 years. Raising four boys and working at the store was no easy task, but she made it look easy.

Rita is survived by her beloved husband of almost 69 years, Robert C. Babin; four sons, Robert ‘Bob’ C. Babin Jr. and his wife Ellen of Yarmouth, Massachusetts, Gary Babin and his wife Sandra of St. Agatha, Dana Babin and his wife Lisa of Holly Springs, Georgia, John Babin of Madawaska; one brother, Maynard Martin and his wife Claudette of St. Agatha; one sister, Corinne Boutot of Madawaska; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rita is predeceased by five brothers, Valier, Joel, Paul, Patrick ‘Pat’, and Wilfred ‘Willie’; five sisters, Olivette, Yvette, Marie, Juliette ‘Julie’, and Jacqueline ‘Jackie’.

 A Mass of Chrisitan burial will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Agatha Church. Family and friends may offer their condolences at Michaud Funeral Home in St. Agatha on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 6-8pm; and the morning of the service from 8:30-9:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the St. Agatha Church, c/o Our Lady of the Valley, PO Box 11, St. Agatha, ME 04772. Envelopes are available at Michaud’s Funeral Home.

 Arrangements have been entrusted to Michaud Funeral Home.
