St. Agatha and Madawaska
Rita L. Gwyer, 89, died peacefully December 24,2014 at a Madawaska Health Facility.
She was born in Madawaska, ME Jan. 8, 1925 the daughter of Jerome & Regina
'Theriault' Albert. Rita graduated at Notre Dame de la Sagesse in St. Agatha & Bangor
School of Commerce (currently Husson). She was predeceased by her husband Joseph.
She met her husband Joseph in Washington, DC where she had moved after graduation to
work at the Pentagon during WWII. They raised their family there and returned to Maine
every year to spend the entire summer at the family camp in Sinclair. She returned to live
in St. Agatha after her husband passed away.
She is survived by three sons: Joseph Jr. And his wife Linda of Carol Stream, lL, John
and his wife Clare of Bentonville, VA., & Andrew and his wife Maura of Scarborough,
ME., three daughters: Ann Marie Patton of Sterling, VA., Susan and her husband Tom
Gerard of Madawaska and Norma Gwyer and her husband Mark Bachinski of
Norridgewock, ME., nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, three brothers: Joel
Albert of Madawaska, Edwin Albert of Aurora, lL., and Gerald & his wife Simone of
Clovis, NM., and one sister: Normande & her husband John Langlais of St. Cloud, MN.
She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased
by two sister-in-laws: Therese Albert and Ruth Albert. A special thanks to all the
"Angels" at High View Manor who so compassionately cared for her during her final
years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1O:00a.m. Saturday Jan. 3, 2015 at the
St. Agatha Catholic Church with the Rev. Kent Ouellette officiating. Condolences may be
given to the family at the Church from 9:30a.m. Until time of services. A reception will be
held after the services in the church basement. Burial in the St. Agatha Lower Cemetery
will be in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to High View
Manor 517 Riverview, Madawaska, ME for the Activity Funds.
