Theresa Martin, 89, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2016.
She was born February 26, 1927 in St. Agatha, Maine, the daughter of Patrick and Alice (Corno) Chamberland.
Theresa attended the Madawaska Training School (now UMFK) in Fort Kent and was a substitute teacher at Patrick Theriault School in Sinclair. She and her husband Roland L. Martin (Val) owned and operated a family owned business known as Martin’s Sporting Camps and Martin’s General Store until his death in 1967, and she continued operating the business until the late 1970’s. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the American Legion Post of Frenchville, a member of the choir at St. Joseph’s Church in Sinclair, a licensing agent for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and election ballet clerk for numerous years.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She will be sadly missed. Theresa’s devotion to family and friends and her positive influence on all whom she met and her community will live on forever.
Theresa is survived by her four children Roland “Danny” Martin and his wife Diane of Sinclair, Richard “Dick” Martin and his wife Judy of Sinclair, Marcia (Martin) Sturgeon and her husband Bruce of Mapleton, and James Martin and his wife Candace of Port St. Lucie, Florida, nine grandchildren, Shannon (Martin)Cyr, Jason and Chad Martin, Launie and Jacob Martin, Travis Surgeon and Megan (Sturgeon) Bonenfant, Darren and Paige Pye and
nine great-grandchildren, Brittani Martin, Hannah and Ella Cyr, Gavin Martin, Sebastian Martin, Lydia Pye, Kylie and Quinn Sturgeon and Nila Bonenfant.
She also leaves behind two sisters Esther Guerrette of East Hartford, Ct. and Fern Chamberland of Fort Kent, and many special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Roland L. Martin (Val), two brothers, Maurice and Valier Chamberland and two sisters, Lucille Michaud and Jeannine Michaud.
Friends and family may call at Michaud’s Funeral home in St. Agatha on Thursday 6-8pm and on Friday from 8:30 until time of service. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church in Sinclair. For those who desire, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Valley Restoration Fund.
